8th graders at Truman aren't just reading about geometry—they're building it!
This week, students are mastering rigid transformations (translations, reflections, and rotations) through a hands-on design task. It's awesome to see them collaborate, problem-solve, and apply those abstract concepts to real-world designs. Great work, everyone! #NHPS

Truman School 4th graders in Ms. Gordon's room are demonstrating some serious math strategies this week! They took on a tough challenge: setting an April visitor goal for the zoo that had to be 999 to 9,999 more than any two months combined from January to March.
This problem wasn't just about adding! The students had to:
PLAN IT OUT : They had to think strategically about which two months to add first to find the biggest total—the toughest number to beat!
SHOW THEIR WORK : Every calculation had to be clearly documented as proof.
EXPLAIN THEIR THOUGHT PROCESS : They had to write out why they chose their final goal and how they know it beats the rule.
So proud of the deep thinking, planning, and focus on details from these hardworking students!

Students at Truman School enjoyed the best of a recent half-day! To celebrate, our amazing specials team organized a special "Tiger Day" event. Students spent their specials time rotating through fun activities: playing high-energy games in the gym, getting creative with arts and crafts, and grabbing some treats at the snack station.

It was an honor to serve on the Right to Read panel alongside the inspiring NAACP activist Kareem Weaver, CT State Treasurer Erick Russell, and Greater New Haven NAACP President Dr. Doris Dumas and facilitated by ConnCAN Executive Director Steven Hernández.📚✨
Our discussion delved into the systemic factors, both within and beyond schools, that perpetuate achievement gaps. We explored how schools, families, and community organizations can collaborate to enhance early language development and provide essential support to families.
As we confront the challenges in education today, prioritizing language and literacy development is crucial.
Together, we can cultivate a culture that values reading and learning, empowering our students to thrive and make meaningful contributions to their communities. Let’s continue to champion literacy as the key to a brighter tomorrow for all children!
