King Robinson partnered with CPEN Inc. and Common Ground Schoolyards Program to bring an exciting Outdoor Day to students last week. Students designed, collaborated, created, planted, constructed, explored, and more!

Fourth grade students in Mrs. Carmo's class at Troup School delivered speeches that they wrote after researching ways to reduce household waste! They did a wonderful job sharing their research with an audience!

Today's AAPI Heritage Month assembly at Clemente Leadership Academy featured "Frogs," a Chinese folk song; poems in Pasto and Arabic; oral histories by students who had immigrated to this country; the Afghan national dance, and a wedding dance. The finale was a dancing dragon!

Last night Sound School celebrated the opening night of student artwork on display at local museum, Lost in New Haven!! The artwork is inspired by artifacts in the museum representing New Haven history.

Our 3rd and 4th-grade bilingual students at Truman School had an amazing field trip to Lighthouse Point Park! They climbed to the top of the historic lighthouse, explored the rocky tide pools, and learned all about local marine life and coastal history.

Such a fun day of hands-on learning in the sunshine!

As part of his work leading the Connecticut Career Pathways Commission, former U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona visited the advanced manufacturing lab at Hillhouse High School. He heard a brief presentation about the Manufacturing Pathway then toured the lab and met students.

On Monday, Fair Haven School hosted a Title One STREAM Event. Students participated in many different tasks, activities, crafts, and more. There were books for the students and families to take home with them as well as art on display demonstrating the many talented students at Fair Haven School. It was a wonderful event! Thank you to all of the students and families who came!

The end of the school year may be approaching, but at NHPS, we know that every single day matters. I was thrilled to join our fantastic team at John S. Martinez School to welcome our students. Starting the day with high energy and big smiles reminds us exactly why we do this work.

Our middle schoolers didn't just take a school climate survey — they dug into the data. Students unpacked the results, identified our strengths, named the areas where we still have work to do, and came up with tangible solutions for the upcoming year.

When students are trusted with real information and asked real questions, they rise to the moment every time. Proud of our scholars for showing us what student voice really looks like. 💙

While joining our students at the UCLA Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz event, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Zakai Henderson. Please join me in congratulating Zakai, a Coop student, on earning a spot this summer at GRAMMY Camp in New York City. At NHPS we help students find their passion and support them in pursuing it.

Student Council Eco Warriors at Martinez School are growing something bigger than ourselves!

Our 2nd Annual Community Cleanup was filled with teamwork, pride, and purpose as we cleaned up litter, planted flowers, and added new trees to help our community bloom for years to come. #CommunityCleanup #GrowingTogether #ServiceWithPurpose

The Herbie Hancock Institute brought its peer-to-peer jazz education program to Wilbur Cross High School today. The program features jazz combos that feature young musicians alongside professionally acclaimed artists. It includes performance, music education, and workshops.

Hill Central students in grades K-8 participated in the school-wide Science Fair.

Sound School Senior Vet Tech students spent last week visiting and/or volunteering with a dog rescue, cat and dog shelter, bird rescue and donkey sanctuary in Bonaire. They made notes as to how the students that follow them next year can be prepared to jump right in to help, now that they made introductions.

Members of the Drop-Out Prevention Team greeted students at Hill Central School while dressed as Super Mario Brothers characters in order to encourage strong attendance through the end of the school year.
