🎓 Student voice in action at JSM!

Our middle schoolers didn't just take a school climate survey — they dug into the data. Students unpacked the results, identified our strengths, named the areas where we still have work to do, and came up with tangible solutions for the upcoming year.

When students are trusted with real information and asked real questions, they rise to the moment every time. Proud of our scholars for showing us what student voice really looks like. 💙

Sound School Senior Vet Tech students spent last week visiting and/or volunteering with a dog rescue, cat and dog shelter, bird rescue and donkey sanctuary in Bonaire. They made notes as to how the students that follow them next year can be prepared to jump right in to help, now that they made introductions.

Truman School 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade squads hit the shore last week with one goal: Leave it better than we found it. What started as a beautiful day at the beach turned into an incredible display of community service and environmental action. Our students rolled up their sleeves (and put on their gloves!) to tackle litter and protect our local coastline.

The Day’s Impact:
Cleaning Crews: Armed with grabbers and grit, students scoured the sand and rocky areas to collect everything from plastic bottles to hidden micro-debris.

Recycling in Action: We didn't just pick it up—we sorted it! Our students learned the importance of proper disposal to ensure our waste doesn't end up in the ocean.

A Lesson Beyond the Classroom
It wasn't just about cleaning the beach; it was about understanding our responsibility to the Earth. Seeing the amount of plastic collected was a powerful reminder of why we choose to reduce, reuse, and recycle every single day.

Huge shoutout to all the students and staff who braved the wind and sun to make a real difference!

Truman School 3rd graders had an incredible field trip to Wilson Library today! It wasn't just a visit—it was a literal "key" to the world.

Every student officially received their very own Library Card! 💳✨ This little piece of plastic is basically a superpower in their pockets. Here is what our explorers can do with it:

• Borrow Books: From graphic novels to science mysteries, the shelves are officially open!
• The Seed Library: Did you know they can "borrow" seeds? Students can grab packets to start their own gardens at home. 🌻🌱
• Musical Discovery: The library even offers free lessons and access to musical instruments! 🎺🎸

We are so proud of our new cardholders. Watching them realize that the library is a place to grow, play, and imagine was the highlight of our week.

John S. Martinez Sea & Sky STEM Magnet School educators, in partnership with Seedlings, have been working hard embracing Place-Based Learning, deepening the bond between our curriculum and our city. This year’s teacher and staff appreciation week theme, "You Are The Heart of Our Community," celebrated that connection with a week of local support through generous donations. Each day, local businesses, community partners, and our very own incredible JSM families showed love to JSM teachers and staff.

The purpose of this week was about honoring the educators who bridge the gap between the classroom and the world outside. We are grateful to everyone who helped us celebrate the professionals who work tirelessly to build a brighter tomorrow for our students. 💚💙
