Last Thursday, Metropolitan 10th Graders participated in a career-focused Shadow Day!

Students in the Business & Communications Pathway learned about the field of finance at Bank of America.

Digital Media & Technology students got hands-on experience in the field of broadcasting through activities at Make Haven and a visit to WTNH.

Education & Leadership students got to step into their "teacher" shoes as they led activities for elementary students at their sister school, Conte West Hills.

Students in the Law & Political Science pathway explored different aspects of careers in law through their visits to Carmody Law Firm and the New Haven County Courthouse.

Back at school, students reflected upon their experiences and excitedly shared their days with one another! A memorable learning experience for all!

📚 Metro’s GSA visited Possible Futures in New Haven, a community book space dedicated to amplifying voices from historically marginalized communities. Students browsed, read, and selected books that reflected their lived experiences, challenged dominant narratives, and identified meaningful additions to our school library—followed by thoughtful discussion about why these stories matter.

🌍 Multilingual. Multitalented. Metro.
In early December, Metro students fluent in 2–5 languages joined SCSU for a Seal of Biliteracy celebration. From exploring study-abroad opportunities to learning about careers in interpretation, healthcare, and beyond, our students saw more ways multilingualism opens doors—to college, careers, and the world. 🌎✨

🎨 Students in Metro’s African American/Black & Puerto Rican/Latino Course visited the Yale University Art Gallery to analyze art and artifacts spanning Ancient Africa through modern America. Through close observation, discussion, and sketching replicas—including Martin Wong’s La Vida—students examined how art reflects the perspectives, identities, and lived experiences of people across historical eras. #NHPS

Friday was a cozy and heartwarming morning at Truman school! Our students showed up in their favorite pajamas for the Town Hall, and the energy was wonderful.

The celebration was all about Gratitude. We took the time to reflect on what we are thankful for and to honor our amazing Students of the Month! These students have stood out for their kindness, their hard work, and the positive way they contribute to our school family.

HOLIDAYS
Spreading holiday cheer for all to hear! Third graders at Ross Woodward School study all about community in their second quarter magnet curriculum and as such they do lots of projects surrounding the community. This month they go caroling! For weeks they've been studying holiday songs and prepping for the big moment! This year we got to carol for the A wing classes: kindergarten, first and pre-K! Our students and staff sounded amazing! Thank you so much for spreading some cheer this holiday season!

Today we cut the ribbon on exciting renovations to the Floyd Little Athletic Center that bring a professional quality basketball court and Olympic level indoor track for use by our students and members of the community. Among the speakers were student athletes and members of the New Haven delegation to the state legislature, who secured the funding. The court is dedicated in the names of former citywide athletic director Robert "Bob" Laemel and basketball coach Salvatore “Red" Verderame. #NHPS
